Freedom/Security

I believe in democracy. In a well constructed country, democracy keeps corruption from clouding the interest of the citizens. Every citizen is capable of making decisions just as powerful as their neighbors; everyone holds responsibility. Democracy keeps people involved; it encourages people to care about more than their own wellbeing.
When presented with a decision, no government or pure government, I choose pure government every time. Pure government is absolute bureaucracy, an overbearing government that has a say in everything. I hate unnecessary government intervention more than most, but remember, there is still some infrastructure in place in a democracy. In either pole, I would not have a vote at all. The only real difference is security.
When the Dorians migrated south to the Peloponnese, they settled in the fallen kingdom of Menelaus. They became the new Spartans. Spartans were strong in battle, but when they lost to Messenia, they had no choice but to reform. A man named Lycurgus is responsible for guiding the Spartans to the highest of glories. His ideas led to eunomia, essentially a great and successful order. Sparta became a well-oiled machine. It did not matter what families citizens came from- everyone trained throughout their childhood and served in the military.
Every citizen lived in near identical homes. Everyone had a place they were sure of starting at birth. They had responsible elders ruling, similar to a senate. Responsible people that had demonstrated value earlier in life. Everything operated as it should.
Security is waking up every morning and knowing where you belong. Spartans had security in the truest sense. I would much rather wake up every morning knowing I would go to work shoveling shit than wake up knowing I would not survive a broken leg due to lack of infrastructure to help me recover. There would be no hospitals to treat me and I would have no means of gathering food without the ability to walk.
For people to have jobs shoveling shit, driving buses, and mopping floors, everyone must be placed in a position where they can be happy enough to stay out of trouble. Realistically with over 7 billion people, more than a few would have a management title. These managers would be by definition a ruling class, no different than management and board positions in a company. Everybody works hard and they are rewarded for it. Society is advanced.
If you want to live like a lawless animal, go right ahead. See how long you last, or how long it is until you can not feed your family. I will be perfectly happy returning to my one room apartment with eight occupants wreaking of shit knowing I have food and security.
